Nebraska is quite concerned in the growing incidences of alcohol and drug abuse and addiction among its younger population. Until lately, the state was attempting at answering these issues at an individual level by only considering the children under question for treatment, but now methods have changed and there is an inclusion of the parents of the children into the program too.

The programs for substance abuse in Nebraska are now focusing on the children as well as their families. The families are coached on how they can deal with the situation and provide the children with the kind of emotional help that is needed to help them come out of the addiction.Since children do not normally require inpatient detox treatments for their substance abuse problems, the addiction treatment in Nebraska focuses mainly on outpatient treatments. Such programs are funded by the Division of Behavioral Health for the state of Nebraska. The programs are currently outpatient services, but soon they will incorporate day treatment programs and several channels of education.

One more aspect of juvenile addiction treatment in Nebraska is the inclusion of treatment for emotional problems. Children who have certain psychological issues or mental deficiencies are treated singularly through family intensive programs.

The effects of these efforts for juvenile addiction treatment are already being felt in Nebraska. There is a definite decline in the rate of juvenile crime, saving on costs for expensive residential treatment programs and improving performance at school among other things. By involving the family into the addiction treatment program, Nebraska has attempted to provide more lasting treatment benefits to its children.
