Drug Rehab Treatment Resources-Why are Supplementary Tests Conducted?

People who are put into drug rehab often wonder why they are made to undergo so many tests that are not directly connected to their drug addiction. Their families may want to know the reason too, because most of these tests are too expensive.
Some of these supplementary tests that are conducted in such people include testing for HIV infection or AIDS, testing for hepatitis B and C, testing for tuberculosis and testing for several other infectious diseases. Both drug addicts and their families fail to understand the reason for these tests. But the reason is quite justified. Several addictions can cause a very strong feeling of euphoria in the person by releasing a substance known as dopamine within the brain. When this substance is released, the person experiences the high of the drug. Some drugs like methamphetamine can cause extreme highs in people. Since these drugs are club drugs that are used in groups, there are chances of seeking pleasures through sexual promiscuity. Being under the drug influence, the person will not be quite aware of or inclined to use protective measures, thus increasing their chances of infection. In fact, the AIDS scare is quite high in the crystal meth using community in the world.
There is another direct reason too. Most drugs are used through syringes. This directly increases the chances of infection through the blood.
The therapists in the drug rehab centers will want to make sure that such possibilities do not exist. If they do, proper treatment measures for them would be required too. That’s the point of conducting all those supplementary tests.
