Tackling Alcohol Abuse and Alcohol Addiction in Utah through DUI Programs

In order to overcome the large number of criminal offenses it faces due to DUI, Utah has started implementing some aggressive strategies. One of the most significant programs is named as PRIME for Life, which is a statewide program based on research.

The primary intention of this problem is to mitigate the repercussions of alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction in Utah by checking its DUI incidences. The program is managed by the Prevention Research Institute, which is a nonprofit organization with its headquarters in Lexington, Kentucky. Along with Utah, the other states that will be directly benefited by the PRIME for Life program are Georgia, Iowa, North Dakota and South Carolina. The reason why PRIME for Life is expected to be a good contributor to solving the problem of alcohol abuse in Utah is the fact that it has been developed with the help of anecdotal research collected over fifteen years and contains as many as nine hundred references pertaining to DUI and related incidences.

The main area of functioning of this plan is behavior modification through education. The program leans heavily on bringing research findings to offenders which serves a better purpose than mere theoretical learning.

The program is structured to be delivered in lectures over 16 hours split in four sessions. In addition, the program has a continuing newsletter, a toll free contact for support and evaluation methods. Strategies implemented within the program are self-assessment, group activities and individual activities. It has been seen that offenders who are made to go through the PRIME for Life program show a significantly lowered rate of repeat offenses. Today, PRIME for Life has certainly become a very significant tool in reducing the problem of substance abuse in Utah and in other states.
