Why Do Drug Abuse Intervention Specialists Like Workin with the Family
The overall task profile of a drug abuse intervention specialist, also known as an interventionist, is quite long. But one of the main jobs that they have to accomplish is to induce the patient to accept for a reputable drug rehab program.
Now, this is easier said than done. People who are into the drug abuse habit will never want to think that there is something wrong with them. Then there is the scare of the drug detox program which is known to bring about all those worrisome withdrawal symptoms. For sure, drug addicts will want to remain as far from treatment programs as possible. What’s more significant is that they are probably enjoying being in the habit. That is what makes a drug abuse intervention such a formidable treatment program. But the intervention specialists are doing a great job at getting the patients join drug treatment programs anyways. So, what’s their secret? They are enlisting the families of these patients into the intervention program.
Families are very effective at making the person understand how his or her drug habit is affecting them and the society at large. Families can let the patient know that they love him or her even with the habit and really do want him or her to join into a treatment center and return to good health. In fact, interventionists will train families on what to say to the patient that can really make the difference.
Another reason why the interventionists want families to participate in the intervention program is that families can remain with the patient throughout the length of the treatment and even afterwards. This certainly helps in providing more meaningful treatment for the patient.
