Why is Addiction Intervention Needed after Rehab?

When intervening in someone’s drug addiction, you must know that you are taking on a responsibility for life. Drug addiction is a very vicious kind of addiction – whichever drug the person may be hooked on to – and it is not possible to wish away the addiction overnight. You have to be morally guiding and supporting the patient throughout the period of recovery, which is for life.

Most people think that drug intervention is over when the person completes the treatment and returns home from the drug rehabilitation center. However, this is a very fallacious idea. In fact, post intervention is as important as the intervention provided during the treatment. Actually speaking, it is the post intervention that will ensure that the treatment has become really successful.

Why is that so? This is simply because even if the person has left the drugs, the drugs won’t leave the person that easily. There will be incessant urges to go back into the drug habit, and there will even be physical symptoms that may induce the person to consume the drug again. Symptoms like the withdrawal symptoms may occur again. This is what we call as a relapse. At such time, it is the work of the person providing the intervention to do all they can to keep the addiction away and seek the right kind of assistance from the treatment center.

If you intervene in the drug addiction of someone you care for, you will have to make sure that you take the person to the healthcare center regularly, so that their progress can be monitored. You will also get further guidance on how to go about with the drug intervention you are doing during such visits.
